Editor for leading healthcare journals

Publications

MA Healthcare publishes a number of scientific and/or professional journals that provide a combination of news, editorial opinion, clinical reviews and scientific studies for a specialist readership. The company is looking to assign new editors to one or two of the following publications:

  • Journal of Aesthetic Nursing – cosmetic medicine practitioners (10 issues a year)
  • Journal of Kidney Care – nephrology practitioners (6 issues a year)
  • Nursing and Residential Care – care home managers and nurses (12 issues a year)
  • Equipment Services Journal – healthcare equipment providers (4 issues a year)
  • International Journal of Palliative Nursing – end-of-life care practitioners (12 issues a year) – maternity cover beginning in October 2019

Responsibilities

The editor’s daily responsibilities involve:

  • Commissioning articles from authors
  • Organising peer review
  • Developing, subediting and proofreading manuscripts
  • Sourcing illustrations and photographs
  • Writing editorials and other short articles
  • Laying out and uploading pages

Other occasional responsibilities include:

  • Liaising with editorial boards
  • Planning commercial growth
  • Representing journals at conferences
  • Collaborating on other editorial projects

Requirements

Editors are required to have:

  • A graduate-level degree or equivalent
  • 6 months of editing experience
  • (Preferably) familiarity with Adobe InDesign

  • Attention to detail – able to identify factual and stylistic errors
  • Communication – able to coordinate closely with authors, reviewers and colleagues

  • Multi-tasking – able to simultaneously oversee every aspect of the editorial process
  • Organisation – able to manage projects to consistently meet strict and regular deadlines.
