Product manager

Community Care helps social workers stay up to date with the latest and most significant developments in practice, law and policy to help them to change lives for the better and flourish in their careers. We also support social work employers and leaders to recruit and retain high-quality practitioners and develop their staff to the best of their abilities.

We do this by providing practitioners and leaders with critical news and information through our site; delivering expert-produced practice guidance through our subscription-based Community Care Inform Adults and Inform Children sites; supporting employers to recruit the right staff and practitioners to find the right opportunities through the Community Care Jobs recruitment site; and bringing the whole sector together to learn, debate and network at our annual Community Care Live event.

As part of our continued growth plan, we have created a new role for a Product Manager for the Community Care group. You will play a key role in our senior management team, combining a deep understanding of the sector with technology innovation and design as well as data analysis to develop commercially viable products and services.


Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ownership and external delivery of our existing data product and consultancy service including data analysis, stakeholder management, preparation and presentation of reports
  • Development and delivery of a new data and consultancy service
  • Working closely with the Community Care group management, sales, content and marketing teams as well as other internal departments to develop new products and solutions
  • Leading the planning for launch of products/services including: planning marketing collateral and activity; pricing strategy; communication to existing and potential new customers; training internal and external stakeholders on use of product/service
  • Identifying opportunities for innovation and strategic partnerships both within the MAE business and with external stakeholders that will drive revenue and gross profit growth to deliver on our three-year strategic plan
  • Working closely with the senior marketing manager to undertake customer and user research across the group, business case creation and approval – including revenue projections and cost forecasts for potential development
  • Overseeing the development of products or services
  • Preparing product backlogs of features/developments and applying a prioritisation approach
  • Identifying use cases and preparing user stories to illustrate customer focus
  • Producing and maintaining shareable internal and external product roadmaps to identify ongoing enhancements/developments
  • Providing key input into the vision and strategy for the group
  • Actively looking to embed product management principles, approaches and methodologies into our product development operation
  • Monitoring progress against KPIs

Skills and experience - essential

  • Demonstrable commercial experience in a product focused role
  • An understanding of product management methodologies, especially in a business to business setting
  • Strong analytical skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret user needs and translate them into clear and concise requirements
  • Experience of understanding customer problems/pain points and exploring potential solutions to those problems
  • Experience in conducting customer interviews, and working with users to translate requirements into user stories
  • Strong commercial skill set with the ability to successfully understand and build business cases, including presenting MVPs
  • Playing an integral part in the building and development of products
  • Ability to switch between big picture thinking and the detail
  • Experience of interacting with senior stakeholders and communicating with authority and impact (both verbally and written)
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent qualification or experience

  • Matrix leadership experience
  • Relevant professional project management qualifications
  • Knowledge of key emerging technologies, current trends and their potential disruptive impacts
  • Experience of working with and managing relationships with 3rd party design and development houses
