The British Journal of Hospital Medicine was acquired from Thomson by Mark Allen when he set up Mark Allen Group in 1985.
The journal has just celebrated its 45th anniversary issue with a special editorial featuring contributions from Mark, Rob Miller and Rebecca Linssen (the journal's current editor in chief and editor), and also from Professor John Blandy, who was one of the founding editorial board members when the journal was launched in 1966.
The journal also reproduced the editorial from the very first issue which emphasised the importance of a review journal in supporting postgraduate medical education – a role which the journal and all the associated conferences continues to fulfil. The launch editorial said ‘...the continued existence of this journal will depend entirely on its ability to satisfy the demand for the right type of information presented in the right way.’ - this still holds true today.
We are delighted to be supporting hospital doctors in their professional development 45 years on, and look forward to doing this for many years to come.
